general personality: WARNING: TEAL DEER AHEAD.
Since she was sixteen, Buffy Summers has always wanted nothing more than to be like every other girl. With the hair and the nails and the talking about boys, and with the fiscal responsibility when she grew up a little more, but much to her continuing chagrin an entirely normal life was never on the cards for her. Right in the middle of her shallow teenagerhood, she was chosen by fate to be the next in the Slayer line, and was infused with the strength and speed to fight the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness whether she liked it or not. Ever since the very first Slayer was called thousands of years ago, solitude, pain and an early death have always been part of the job description, and the various Slayers across the centuries have been trained and taught to accept this as their (very, very short) life. That was before they called on Buffy.
At first, Buffy was just your regular ditzy blonde Valley Girl, but her newfound power and the dangers of her life quickly gave her emotional strength to match the physical. She established herself as being strong-willed, occasionally rebellious, and a tough and capable leader who won't sit back and take shit. Her agency, her ability to control her own life and her own actions and to fight to maintain that, is something that's extremely important to her, so it follows that being powerless is one of her deepest fears.
Buffy does what she feels is right, not what anyone else tells her to, and she refuses to go along with the whole "Slayers are loners until they die" label. Her friends and family, the people she loves, are her support network, a source of strength for her and basically the most important part of her life; while she'd readily sacrifice herself to stop a demonic apocalypse, there'd be some pre-sacrifice searching for other options and maybe a little bit of fear before she decided to go through with it. If she had to give her life to save one of her friends she'd just do it, no questions asked, and she'd be at peace knowing they were safe. When the odds were stacked against her and it looked like she'd have to kill her own sister, Dawn, in order to save the world, Buffy chose to die in her place, telling Dawn that "the hardest thing in this world is to live in it", but she had to keep on living anyway.
She's very much a defender of the people, and while she may have been a little sketchy on the whole sacred calling thing at first, nowadays Buffy takes it seriously. Killing vampires and evil monstery things to protect mankind is her duty and her responsibility -- with great power and all that jazz. And she absolutely will not, not ever use that power to intentionally hurt or kill a human being, no matter how evil they are, how much they deserve it, or whether or not their death might result in the world being saved. She's been presented with more than one opportunity to do so, and every time she's ignored the pressure put on her by others and opted to show mercy instead. As Giles said, she'll never be capable of taking a human life, because she's a hero.
But. Sometimes being the Slayer can do her more harm than good. Buffy is stronger than anyone she knows, any monster she's faced -- that's not her ego talking, it's the simple truth. The weight of the world is on her shoulders and she keeps on carrying it, even when it feels like she can't handle it anymore, like it's going to break her down. Someone as powerful and indestructible and righteous as she is... eventually she was bound to start feeling superior, like she's stronger and better than everybody else, and a part of her does. But another part feels like she's a horrible person for thinking so; maybe she doesn't deserve the love of her friends, if she views them as being so far beneath her. So, as a vampire once put it, she has a superiority complex, and she has an inferiority complex about it.
Occasionally, despite being pretty smart for the most part (social-smart and fighting-smart, definitely not book-smart), Buffy does tend to have major lapses in judgement, and they always come back to bite her in the ass eventually. She's shown a tendency to hide things from her friends, huge things, believing that she's capable of dealing with them herself when she really, really isn't.
Above all, though, she's determined and (just in case you didn't get this part by now) extremely strong. No matter how hard life is to deal with, and a lot of the time it's so hard, she picks herself up and she keeps going, keeps fighting the fight. And in between all that, she manages to be a mostly cheerful, caring, funny, compassionate person... who talks kind of weird. Buffy knows that the rest of her life is going to be just as difficult as it's been thus far, but she's still full of hope and optimism for the future; she's going to keep the world safe, for her sister, for her friends and for everyone, and she intends to be there to share that with them. She proves day after day that balancing slayage with a real life is possible, that you can battle the darkness with your loved ones beside you, and in stylish-yet-affordable boots, no less. She walks, she talks, she shops, she sneezes, and even though her life may be just about as far from normal as you can get, she wouldn't trade what she has for anything else in the world.
anything else important about your character: She'll be bringing this along with her.
