canon point: After season 5 when Jim looks like Sam Lucas and they have a son named Aiden.
important history: Melinda was born to Beth and Paul Eastman but before she was born, her father was arrested for a crime he never committed and it left her mother heartbroken. Melinda's mother did her best to get help to save Paul but that way Melinda's mother got to close to the lawyer who supposedly helped her try clear her husband's name and Melinda's father. But in reality the guy did all he could to get Paul even more in trouble. Melinda's biological father couldn't handle it anymore in jail so he killed another criminal and escaped prison. At that time Melinda was around 6 and the lawyer and her mother were married at the time, As she thought that guy was her father yet in reality he wasn't. it took her a long time find out though. Anyways, Paul and her adopted father fought down stairs at her childhood home and she heard everything and saw everything threw her bedroom window but blocked it all out. When she was pretty young her step father left which hurt her and she believed hurt her mother too. However, in reality her mother feared him.
In school Melinda was a loner because everyone called her a freak because she could talk to ghost/ spirits. she used her gift to see and communicate with ghosts/spirits to find out her boyfriends lied to her and she ended up dumping them because of it. Untill Melinda's grandmother set her down and explained to her that it was wrong. Then her grandmother taught her how to develop her gift. Not long after that her grandmother died which hurt her even more then her mother because she was much closer to her. Since her mother tried to get away from her mother, Melinda's grandmother because she wanted nothing to do with the so called gift as she tried to get Melinda away too, but with no luck. Slowly she and her mother grew a part just like her mother and her mother did. After College Melinda moved away as she started helping ghosts/ spirits and their loved ones to get a closer like her grandmother taught her, as well as she helped them move on. That way she met her current husband Jim. They fell in love right away even if they had one small argument at that time but they solved it as then they started dating and eventually they got married and moved in together. He kept working as a fireman just as he was on the day they met and he was also a paramedic, while she opened her antique store. Jim knew what she could do and accepted that as well as he helped her out with that when he could. Not long after they moved to Grandview together in the same home she met a new friend and got attacked by some evil spirits. Evil spirits who tried to make sure she won't cross over anymore ghosts. She also lost the friend who also knew her secret and who was her partner, the same evil spirits tried harder than ever to stop her with her husband from helping her friend and other people who died in a plane that she foresaw. The plane accident was why her friend drew to see her brother the day she died. Melinda won as she watched the spirits cross over and the evil ghosts leave.
Awhile after that she met a new friend with her son, she even helped them say goodbye to their husband / father named Charlie and let him cross over. After that the two became her new secret keepers other than her husband. Over time they met a new friend a professor who helped them out a lot or rather her, her husband and at times her friend's son who is also her friend. Melinda then considered with her husband to have kids which they almost had but lost before it even became a baby. But the two didn't gave up and kept on trying. Not long after that her husband got shot in the shoulder and died that day at the hospital. But because he was so stubborn he refused to move on and when a certain guy died and his soul left his body and crossed over Jim used it as his chance and got in to the body. Also Melinda did try to stop him from doing that but with no luck. As he woke up he didn't recognize her and she was scared she lost him but tried everything not to lose hope untill eventually they dated even so she called him a different name since he had no memory of himself as Jim. It took her a while to tell him the truth which almost got them to separate forever but it didn't. Not long after they started dating when they dealt with a very dangerous situation he told her he couldn't do that anymore, so they had a fight and she ended up telling him the truth which didn't help matters but only made things worse. After that they had a talk in which she officially dumped him but not long after that when she got in danger and he went to save her he hit his head and his memory as Jim came back. And they got back together and out of danger. A while after that they found out about them having a baby and considering the time the baby was conceived they understood that it happened before he died and came back. Happily the two planed a new wedding since as far as the world was concerned Jim was 'Dead' and Melinda was with 'Sam Lucas'. Before the wedding things went a bit crazy when a certain book showed up, and even so she heard the warnings she checked it. Only to find out that everything that happened was planed a head. However she and Jim still got married and then had their baby boy whom they called Aiden Lucas.

notable strengths/abilities: Seeing and talking to ghosts as well as helping them move on, she can see the past by touching an object or at times a person but mostly an object.
general personality: Melinda is a sweet and kind, sensitive woman. She is always there for her family and friends. She is loving and caring but also very naive as it is shown most of the time. Melinda is definitely an over protective woman and smart too as well as loyal and headstrong/ stubborn. She can be funny and tricky as well as sneaky too. She is a good mother, wife and friend as well as daughter and granddaughter, even so she doesn't always believes that she is. After all she does lack self esteem at times and it is noticeable too. Melinda is mysterious and it could go either good way or bad way really. She is even scared from her own power and it is shown a lot, since she jumps a lot and all. People might call her jumpy which is also away to describe her.
Melinda is loyal to everyone and loves her family and friends, even so they do fight at times and such yet the love is still there. Also when she is fooled once it's hard to get her trust again. Her mother was lucky that she forgave her eventually and that they are close again,. But it took a very long time for that to happen. However, not everyone is lucky to gain her trust again after losing it. With Melinda if you betray her once there are no second chances, unless you are lucky enough as well as if you prove to her that you earned it. Melinda loves antiques which is why she opened an antiques store in the first place. Melinda is claustrophobic and it shows a lot in the show as well as she worries to much too. She is funny too but also headstrong/stubborn. Melinda can seem kind of crazy and confusing too but all in all a good person.

sample rp post AS YOUR CHARACTER:
Melinda walked in to a near by diner and set down somewhere by herself. Currently she was visiting Florida with her family, but since her son and husband were having a father son day she decided to go for a walk. However, A while later she saw she walked by a diner so she decided to walk in side and that was what she did. Once inside she ordered herself something to eat and drink, after that she found an empty table and set in front of the empty table. Once in a while Melinda looked around herself as she watched people walk in and out of the place. She sighed as she waited for her order.
Melinda planned to pay once she gets her order as it was much easier for her and all. That way at least she got get the food and the drink and pay for it at the same time. Not that it made any difference but she was rather do it that way. However, if the person next to the cashier told her that it was easier if she payed now then she would. Yet the person didn't seemed to care much as long as she paid which was good. There were times she paid right away, that was true but it was mostly when she ordered things to take but that wasn't what she was doing at that moment. Melinda did hope that her order will be done fast so because she needed to meet her son and husband soon.
Well she was going to head to meet them as soon as they called but since she had no idea when would they call she had to hurry. Then again they could actually meet there so it would be pretty easy for her and for them. That is if they were not to far away from there. However , Melinda surely didn't want to take a risk that they were far away because she cared for them and didn't want them to walk to much just to come to that diner to meet her and hang out with her there. Yes she was going yo ask where they were and all when they called, then after that if then tell her a place that is near where she was then she will definitely ask them to meet there but not right a way. Melinda knew that it might have been not the greatest idea to eat in the diner but then again she couldn't take her order with her if she had no idea where should she take it. Which she clearly didn't know.
As she thought about it all she heard someone call her so she shock her head from the thoughts and looked over at the direction the voice came from. And saw the worker as he showed her that her order was ready so she walked over and took her order then paid and had back to the same table that she set by.
